Spanning the Late Bronze Age from 1750 to 1050 BCE, the Mycenaean Civilisation was the first flourishing of a distinctive Greek culture and identity. Here, what we would come to understand as the Ancient Hellenic Religion, was born!

While there is much we do not know about Mycenaean religion, the study of Archaic and Classical Hellenic religion reveals notable threads of continuity from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron. Combined with Mycenaean material and writing culture, preserved in the earliest known form of Greek in Linear B, we are able to find familiar names of the Olympic pantheon along with information about their worship.

From major cult centres to votive offerings to records of priestesses and more, study of the Late Helladic (Mycenaean) period offers vital context and richness to our understanding and practice of the Ancient Hellenic Religion.

Join us in this self-paced course as we explore the Mycenaean Roots of Classical Hellenic Religion!
